Bare Metal Server: Pay with Bitcoin, No KYC, Billed by the Hour

How to rent a bare metal server and pay for it with Bitcoin: what you get, how it differs from a VPS, and the steps from sign-up to SSH.

What a bare metal server is and who needs one

A bare metal server is a whole physical machine rented to you alone, and you can pay for it with Bitcoin on Neckrez without ID or a card. You get the full CPU, memory and disks of one box, with no other customer's virtual machine on it.

People pick bare metal when a virtual server is too limiting: running their own virtualisation such as Proxmox or KVM, or hosting a very heavy database that needs all the hardware to itself. If you just want to run a bot, a VPN or a website, you do not need it.

Bare metal, Dedicated CPU or VPS: which line fits

Neckrez has three server lines, and the right one depends on how steady and heavy your load is.

  • VPS - shared cloud servers for small apps, bots, VPNs and websites; the default choice and enough for most projects.
  • Dedicated CPU - cores reserved for you, for databases, CI builds and steady heavy load, without renting a whole machine.
  • Bare metal - a whole physical server (Vultr only), for your own virtualisation such as Proxmox or KVM, or very heavy databases.

Rule of thumb: start with a VPS, move to Dedicated CPU when noisy neighbours or steady CPU load become a problem, and go to bare metal only when you need the entire machine or want to run your own hypervisor. Bare metal is the step up from Dedicated CPU, not from a small VPS.

Why Bitcoin suits a bare metal server

Bitcoin works well here because sign-up needs only an email, with no KYC, no ID, no phone and no card. You top up a prepaid balance in crypto and the server is billed hourly from it, so you never hand over payment details that tie you to the account.

Bitcoin is one of 300+ coins accepted through NOWPayments. The minimum top-up is $15, but some coins and networks need more, so read the exact minimum on the payment page. The crypto amount shown already includes processing fees. One honest caveat: top-ups are final, with no refunds and no withdrawals, so top up what you plan to use.

How to do it on Neckrez

  • Sign up - use your email, or Google or GitHub. No KYC.
  • Top up in crypto - choose Bitcoin on the top-up page, from $15, and send the exact amount shown.
  • Pick the server - choose a bare metal plan, a location and an operating system.
  • Wait for the install - bare metal installs in 10-30 minutes, not 60 seconds like a VPS.
  • Run it hourly - you are billed while the server exists and billing stops when you destroy it.

When the server is ready, log in with SSH and check what you actually received:

ssh root@YOUR_SERVER_IP
lscpu | head -n 15
free -h
lsblk
ip -br addr
apt update && apt full-upgrade -y

Bare metal has no browser console, so keep your SSH key and the root login safe. For the OS, Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux are all available.

What to know before you order

  • No snapshots or backups - bare metal cannot be snapshotted, so run your own backups to another server.
  • Empty balance deletes data - if the balance runs out, the server is deleted together with its data, and there is no 7-day snapshot to restore.
  • Billed while it exists - a stopped server is still billed; only destroying it stops billing.
  • No uptime SLA - there are no downtime credits, so design for failure.

Keep a buffer of balance above what the server needs for the next few days. With bare metal, a late top-up costs you the machine, not just an interruption. Our guide on what happens when your VPS balance runs out explains the timing, and crypto VPS hosting covers the payment side.

FAQ

Can I pay for a bare metal server with Bitcoin? Yes. Top up your balance with BTC (or any of 300+ coins) and the server is billed hourly from it.

Do I need to verify my identity? No. Sign-up is an email or a Google or GitHub account, with no KYC, ID, phone or card.

Can I take a snapshot of a bare metal server? No. Bare metal has no snapshots or backups, so copy your data off the server yourself.
