Bandwidth calculator: TB per month to Mbps
Servers come with a monthly transfer allowance in terabytes, and network ports are rated in megabits per second. Convert one to the other and see what the traffic means in practice.
Average is not peak
The calculator gives the average rate over the whole month. Real traffic comes in waves, so the peak is several times the average. A port has to cope with the peak, while the monthly allowance only counts the total.
Rules of thumb
- 1 TB a month is about 3 Mbps of continuous traffic.
- 100 Mbps flat out for a month moves about 32 TB.
- A Full HD stream is roughly 5 Mbps, so 1 TB serves about 600 hours of viewing.
Choosing a plan
Estimate your page views, multiply by the page weight, and add backups and downloads. Most websites and bots stay far below the allowance of even a small plan.
