VPS ping test: find the fastest data centre
The closer your server is to your users, the snappier everything feels: SSH, websites, game servers, VPNs. Press the button and your browser measures the round-trip time to a public test endpoint in each data centre. Nothing is installed.
How to read the result
- Under 80 ms is excellent. Interactive work, VPNs and game servers feel local.
- 80 to 180 ms is fine for websites, bots, APIs and most self-hosted apps.
- Over 180 ms brings noticeable lag for SSH and gaming. It is still fine for batch jobs, backups and crawlers.
Pick the location closest to your users, not necessarily to you. A shop for German customers belongs in Frankfurt even if you live in Thailand. For a personal VPN or a dev box, pick the fastest location from this list.
Why the numbers differ from game ping
The test times a small HTTPS request, so it includes a little request overhead on top of the raw network delay. The absolute numbers may be a few milliseconds higher than an ICMP ping, but the order of locations, meaning which one is fastest for you, is the same.
Tips for a fair result
- Close heavy downloads and VPNs first. They add delay of their own.
- Run it twice. The first run can be slower while connections warm up.
- On Wi-Fi, results wander by a few milliseconds. Compare cities that differ by more than that.
